Busselton, Western Australia has enjoyed a sister city association with Sugito, Japan for over 10 years. This relationship is essentially cultural with people from both towns enjoying bi-annual community exchanges, annual school exchanges and occasional specific interest exchanges, such as the traditional Japanese gardeners who established a Japanese garden for Busselton.
The Busselton Shire band enjoyed a very successful visit in 2003 and the resulting return visit of the Suginiko wind band, who played at carols by candelight in December 2004, was a unique experience for the Japanese musicians.
Future visits may include the pottery club, martial arts groups and other sporting/cultural groups. As a result of these visits a lot of people take away many positive memories of their involvement and many life long friendships have developed.
